DEPOSITION OF CHRIST INTO THE TOMB

The deposition of of Christ into the sepulcher with Joseph of Arimathea, the Virgin Mary, St. John the Evangelist, likely Mary Cleophas, Nicodemus, and St. Mary Magdalene. Painting with color enamels and remnants of gilding on copper plate, 21,5x18 cm, in a carved and lacquered wooden frame 29x25,5 cm. Old inventory label with number 133 on the back. The inspiration for this motif, popular in Limoges enamel painting, can be traced back to a woodcut by Lucas Cranach the Elder from the early 16th century.
Condition corresponding to the age.
Cracked painting, peeled off in several places, older restorations.
