KAVUKLUK

Ottoman Empire, 2nd half of the 19th century
Ottoman Kavukluk, a court shelf/stand for turbans and fezzes, very skilfully inlaid with African ebony and possibly Palestinian mother-of-pearl. It features an Ottoman crescent moon at the top and decorative motifs in the form of stars, arabesques, tulips, and floral patterns. In the center of the upper part, the sultan`s tughra, a stylized signature of the Ottoman ruler. H. 100 cm.
