THE WINDOW OF MY STUDIO. 1944-1953. Semi-matte gelatin silver print, vintage or early print from 1950’s. 235x176 mm (238x181 mm). Annotated in pencil by another person and inventory no. of Bruce Silverstein gallery, New York on the verso. During the German occupation, Sudek completely left contemporary artistic pursuits and directions and concentrated himself on his own journey - calming, contemplating and the simplest ideas, such as his garden and his own studio, especially his famous window - simple objects like a flower, a pebble, a glass, an onion, or a piece of crumpled paper lay on the window. Than he made from these objects independent still life. Provenance: Private collection, Czech Republic. Literature: L. Linhart - J. Sudek, Josef Sudek - Fotografie. SNKL Prague 1956, no. 151; A.
